Rock climbing is all the rage right now and everyone is talking about that fantastic workout that’s got their arms and legs and back muscles sore and aching. But they’re aching for more!
So you might ask, what’s the lure of rock climbing? Isn’t it just holding some colourful things and going up the same vertical wall? Oh, no, it is much more than that!

One, you score a marvellous workout that works the muscles in your entire body (and not just one or two body parts like with bicep curls), trains your stamina and stimulates your mind.
A REFRESHING CHALLENGE
Climbers will agree it is addictive trying to solve “problems” on the rock walls. Every few weeks new problems are set up. Every few years (or it seems few months, in recent times!), a new style of climbing emerges. Rock climbing is constantly evolving, it is never stagnant.
Solving rock climbing problems is so much more palatable than the real-life problems we have to tackle.
HOLD PRETTY HANDHOLDS (ROCKS)
All these colourful rocks on the walls are called holds. They could be handholds or footholds and are made to simulate the outdoor climbing environment in an indoor climbing facility.
Each coloured set of holds represents one rock climbing route. So if you see many colours on the rock climbing walls in an indoor climbing gym, you actually are seeing many routes! Here, we call it “rainbow” (to be used as a verb, i.e. “You can rainbow up a wall.” Lovely, isn’t it?).
DIFFERENT EVERY TIME
Two, you are entertained while working out (hard!). We promise you won’t feel any of the monotony that comes from repeating the sets of exercises you perform at the gym, or from running endlessly on the treadmill, because there’s just so many different routes to unlock! Bid adieu to long, painful hours in the regular gym.
Each climbing route is a puzzle for climbers to solve, and each differs in intensity and difficulty levels. In fact, if you’d like to ascend a wall without following a particular route, that’s fine too!
